Meet John Hughes, the new head of Enea AdaptiveMobile Security

This week we welcome John Hughes to the role of Senior Vice President and Head of Enea AdaptiveMobile Security. With over 20 years’ experience in the telecom and cybersecurity industries, John combines his deep customer and industry understanding with a proven ability to build and deliver world-leading software and intelligence services at scale and with the agility needed in the dynamic cybersecurity sector.

Prior to his current role, John served as Enea AdaptiveMobile Security’s Chief Operating Officer (COO). John Hughes succeeds Brian Collins, who, following a successful eleven-year tenure with the company, will continue as special advisor to Jan Häglund, Enea’s CEO, until the end of the year.

Learn more about John’s background and ambitions in this short interview.

What is your background, and how did it lead to your new role?

I began my career at Vodafone, where I spent several years, and joined AdaptiveMobile Security in 2006, just two years after it was founded. Since then, I have had several roles in different areas, including research and development, product and service management, support, and most recently, COO – a position I held for over four years.

My experience working in many areas and with many different teams within the organization has allowed me to develop extensive knowledge of both the company and our customers, giving me an excellent foundation for my new role.

What achievements or successes make you most proud?

I’ve worked at AdaptiveMobile Security since the earliest days of the company. When I reflect on how we grew from our first customer, the relationships and all-important trust we have built, and the leading industry reputation everyone on the team has worked so hard to create, this is what makes me proud. I’m delighted to have been part of the company’s development up to this point, where we are now firmly established as a critical cybersecurity partner for more than 100 communications service providers all across the globe. It’s been an amazing journey so far, and I’m energized about the future.

What motivates you about the future?

Like many people, I feel the reach of security threats in my everyday life as we face increasing volumes of spam and scam messages and calls, and it can be challenging for people to know what is safe. Add to this the geopolitical climate of today, where it is clear that mobile networks are being used tactically in warfare, at the same time as being vital for the societies to operate; we call it “hybrid warfare,” and it puts mobile network operators in a very tough position.

This can feel like a scary picture at times. Still, to me, this motivates us to continue to innovate and play a role in keeping networks secure and helping make mobile communications more trustworthy for everyone. Our motto is to “protect nations, numbers, and networks.” All of us in the team wake up every day determined to make a difference through our software and unique threat intelligence.

How do you spend time off work?

I used to spend quite a lot of time on the golf course, but these days I spend my down time with my wife, two children, and my dog. There are no better people than your kids to bring you down to earth and put things in perspective!

If you have any questions for John or would like to know more, contact us. We look forward to working with you and shaping the future of mobile network security.
